Shore Fishing < Back
As a peninsula, Loop Head is naturally endowed with a huge choice of locations where you can fish from shore in all weathers.
Settings include rock platforms that shelve into deep water, wild Atlantic storm beaches, sheltered coves and quiet harbours. You can catch bass, mackerel, pollock, flounder, mullet, coalfish, ling, ray and many more species, using a variety of bait.
However, please bear in mind that that the water’s edge and cliff edges can be extremely treacherous, especially for people who are unfamiliar with the area. The water level can change with the tide and sea swells, and wet rocks tend to be very slippery. Strong winds can also pose a danger. Make safety your top priority when shore fishing.
