Loop Head Walking Festival – Doonaha ‘Forts and Folklore’ with guided tour of Napoleonic Battery < Back
Take a journey through time along the relatively sheltered South side of the Peninsula.
We begin our walk at the popular swimming cove of Glaisin, also known as Doonaha Beach.
Enjoy the rural landscape and learn about local historic landmarks en-route to Doonaha Fort.
Doonaha and the surrounding area of Lisheen are dotted with remnants of ancient ring forts with particularly interesting clusters of forts along the Doonaha river flowing into the Shannon.
Doonaha village itself is home to the Gaelic Scholar Eugene O’ Curry and the local school is known to be one of the bardic schools of that time.
Explore County Clare’s Coastal Military history during the Napoleonic Era and enjoy a fully guided tour of Doonaha Gun Battery. Return to Glaisin car park cross-country. Guaranteed fun. Make sure to wear good boots.
Guide: Carmel Haugh of Around the Loop Tours and Transportation.
Meeting point: Glaisin beach car park, Doonaha
Duration: 2 hours
