Feeding alpacas at The Flying Alpaca

There are some great activities to try out on Loop Head. Most are open all year round, so if you fancy a trip when there are less visitors about – you will find plenty of things to do.

Did you know you could take an alpaca for a walk? Take a baking class? Or how about an E Bike tour around Carrigaholt and the beautiful country lanes out to Loop Head. You will start at the Shannon Estuary and end up enjoying the views over the magnificent Atlantic Ocean and the Estuary. Or maybe a horse ride at Carmen’s Riding Stables.  . . or a guided walk with Martin of Loop Head Walking Tours.

There is also a brand new activity for you to discover – Shannon Safari’s. During the trip on the Clare Dragoon you will be on the lookout for Dolphins, Seabirds and Wild Goats. You will also be guided through the Geographical, Geological and Historical features of the area. There is so much to see, and each trip is different.

You may see dolphins on the trip – you can never tell.  They are wild animals after all. There is a pod of around 200 dolphins that live at the mouth of the Shannon. Luke is a very experienced captain and seaman and will do his best to find them. This the Facebook page link for Shannon Safaris –  All the booking details are on the page.

Keeping with the sea theme – have you ever had a seaweed bath. Oh my goodness – it is so luxurious. You will feel wonderful, just relaxing in the steaming water in a deep porcelain, Victorian bath.

The height of  luxury

Did you know that you can have an interactive farm experience at The Flying Alpaca? You can feed, have a chat and maybe even take an alpaca for a walk. The Flying Alpaca also offer soap making workshops. There is also a cat and a dog, chickens and horses . .  and bees. So much to see.

Carmen’s Riding School is open all year round for pony treks, and pony camps for the younger members of the family during school holidays. Exploring the local lanes of Loop Head on horseback is wonderful way to spend time. And at that height, you can see over the hedges and discover more. Carmen is a very experienced riding teacher and is happy to work with children of all abilities. The stable yard is a fun place to be with resident goats, cats and dogs. You never quite know who you will meet.

A great to explore the local area
