2 Day Guided Walking Break of the Wild Atlantic Way < Back
Experience the history, culture & natural beauty of the Loop Head Peninsula. Stay in the beautiful Glencarrig Farm House with purpose built accommodation where you will enjoy the best of Irish hospitality.
Day 1 – Coastal Hike of Loop Head Peninsula 20 km Looped Walk
A wonderful hike along coastal paths and country roads. The walk takes in both aspects of the peninsula’s coastal landscape: the relative calm and shelter at the Mouth of the Shannon on the south side and the rugged, wild and windswept Atlantic on the north side. The history and folklore of the peninsula are knitted together by your guide, highlighting the Bridges of Ross and the Hanging Gardens of Loop Head.
Day 2 – Monks, Sailors and Soldiers of Kilcredaun Hike 10 km Looped Walk
Kilcredaun, meaning Church of Credán, is a headland where Ireland’s greatest river meets the Atlantic Ocean. The site attracted early Christian monks who established a 6th c. monastic settlement. Due to many shipwrecks, it also became the site for an important lighthouse in 1824. Along the trail you will visit a Victorian Coastguard Station, the early Christian Church and holy well of St. Credán, the shipwreck of the Okeanos, the Napoleonic Defence Battery and its subterranean tunnel.
