Irish musicians

Like the rest of County Clare, Loop Head is a haven for music-lovers, and especially those who are fond of traditional music. Perhaps the best-known local music event is the annual trad festival at Moyasta in August/September. The Nell Galvin Traditional Music Weekend honours the celebrated concertina and fiddle player Ellen (Nell) Galvin, who died in 1961. Musicians and audiences travel from all over Ireland and Britain, as well as from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to be part of it.

On a smaller scale, a regular fixture at Keane’s pub in Carrigaholt is Ceol Cois Tine – sessions of music, singing, dancing and folklore featuring both well-known performers and young, up-and-coming talent.

Music is also an integral part of the many festivals that take place around Loop Head. And there’s a good chance you’ll find live music – of all kinds – being played in the pubs of the peninsula most evenings during the summer season.
