  1. Check the forecast before heading out on the water.
  2. Look up the tide tables to prepare for fishing, rock pooling or swimming. There is a beach or cove to suit all tides.
  3. Keep a Loop Head flora and fauna guidebook in the car or in your backpack to help you interpret your journey.
  4. Keep a rubber bucket in the boot of your car with togs, towels and wetsuits for everyone.
  5. It can get chilly along the coast and the weather can change quickly, so make sure to carry a fleece and light raincoat, even if the sun is shining.
  6. Keep at a safe distance when exploring coastal paths as there may be overhangs on cliff edges and sudden changes in sea conditions can catch you off guard.
  7. Bring a packed lunch if you are heading out on your own exploring Loop Head by land or sea. Make sure you let people know where you are going.
